4 new IBS coating machines

Double IBS capacity in 2015
LASEROPTIK enlarges from four to eight industrial IBS systems e.g. for ultrafast optics, complex filter designs or in the UV. With a custom built giant machine, LASEROPTIK also offers coatings on substrates up to 2 metres in length, made by IBS.

IBS coatings up to 2 m

LASEROPTIK now designs and produces dispersion-matched pairs of broadband chirped mirrors for even better GDD compen-sation.

History

Dr. Johannes Ebert
1984

LASEROPTIK was formally established by Dr. Johannes Ebert, who involved his wife and Werner Moorhoff, today's general manager.
Over the 12 years before Dr. Ebert had gained experience in the manufacturing and characterisation of thin films at the Institute of Quantum Optics of the University of Hanover.
He was a pioneer in the development of plasma- and ion guns for the reduction of absorption- and scatter losses and for the improvement of the damage resistance of high power coatings.

  1990
LASEROPTIK runs 3 Balzers coating machines, two of them in Dr. Ebert's modified basement.

  1991
As a spin-off of the "Institute of Quantum Optics" the "Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH)" is founded at 10km from LASEROPTIK's site: The beginning of a constructive and cooperative neighbourship.

The "Laserscheune" at Gneisenaustrasse 1992
A new company building is erected in order to be furnished with another 7 Balzers coating machines over the following years. The "optics barn" ("Optikscheune") is constructed in the style of a Lower Saxony framework house and is equipped with the latest cleanroom technology.

LASEROPTIK starts a two year r&d effort with DSI Inc., USA. In close collaboration with the american engineering experts, Martin Ebert, the founder's elder son, develops a unique magnetron sputtering system and establishes this technology at LASEROPTIK.
Laserhof 2002
A new company building - the "Laserhof" - is erected under the legal authority of Dr. Ebert's sons Martin and Wolfgang. It provides additional space for a number of coating machines in three cleanrooms.

  2006
LASEROPTIK EXPRESS is on the run, the rapid prototyping and overnight coating service. More than 100 orders were processed right from the start in this year.
  2007
LASEROPTIK is the first professional coating company outside the USA to offer IBS coatings. Due to the demand, the machine capacity is doubled in 2008.

  2008
Dr. Wolfgang Ebert now serves as LASEROPTIK's president, while working for the company since 1997. He learned the skills of a thin-film engineer from scratch before he filled his father's big shoes.
Wolfgang is the head behind new programs like the Express service, LOOP, the development of ion beam sputtering, novel coating concepts and various other strategic and pragmatic advances.
